Wine of the Day: Jordan Winery Chardonnay & Nature Hikes

Jordan Estate

On the heels of Chardonnay Day, and just in time for the weekend, Sonoma’s Jordan Winery will be the first winery in Sonoma to open their doors to guest….well sort of. Starting this weekend, they will be welcoming visitors by showcasing one of the 40+-year-old winery’s best features, their stunning property.

Jordan Vineyards

Though stay-in-place orders have not lifted to allow for wineries to reopen their tasting rooms, Jordan Winery will welcome couples for a guided hike, following social distancing precautions, across their 1200-acre ranch. After the walking adventure, couples will receive a picnic-to-go crafted by the incredible in-house culinary team at Jordan, including goodies from their garden, and a bottle of 2018 Jordan Russian River Chardonnay and 2016 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. (The state is not allowing for consumption of food or drink on the grounds of wineries yet.)

Perhaps none is as constant, or pleasing, from the Russian RiverValley than Jordan Winery Russian River Chardonnay ($35) with bright minerality, succulent texture, and an opulent palate. The Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($58) has changed it’s profile a bit in recent years, moving away from American oak aging and bringing the use of French oak into the aging of the wine, and blending fruit from over 60 different vineyard blocks planted throughout Jordan’s massive property. The resulting wine is silky, somewhat savory, and sublimely pleasing.

The nature hike program starts on the 23rd of May and will run through the beginning of June on the weekends, with the Jordan team evaluating the Covid-19 situation each week to ensure everyone stays safe. As we have been indoors for weeks, this is the ideal way to get some exercise through one of Sonoma’s most beautiful properties. Details are available via the website, here. The package is $220 per couple.

If you can’t make it to wine country, as getting on airplanes is still a little tough for many (gosh, I miss flying,) pick up a few bottles of the new releases via their website, and plan a picnic in your backyard after a stroll through the neighborhood. It is the perfect reward after a walk or hike.
