Wine of the Day: Clos du Val Chardonnay

48 years ago in the heart of Napa’s Stags Leap District AVA, Clos Du Val was founded to produce the finest Bordeaux style wine in California. A part of the 1976 Judgement of Paris, the winery has received top acclaim since its start.

From estate-grown fruit in the cool rolling hills of Napa’s Carneros AVA, Clos du Val Chardonnay ($35) melds richness with brightness. 100% barrel fermented with full malolactic fermentation, and aged for 10 months in French oak, of which 35% is new, this is a rich, warm you from the inside out, white wine that is also balanced thanks to cooling winds blowing through the vineyards daily around 3pm, blowing off morning fog that locks in freshness.

Opening with floral wisteria and jasmine, followed by lemon leaf, apple blossom, and baking spice. The medium-bodied, well-rounded palate is textured and concentrated, with golden apple, tropical pineapple, crushed stone, and lemon curd.
