Wine of the Day: Diora La Splendeur du Soleil Chardonnay

Inspired by the golden hills of the Santa Lucia Mountains in California’s Central Coast, Diora (French for gold) showcases the elegance and richness fruit from this stunning area can produce. Benefiting from a long growing season thanks to endless sunshine throughout the summer and fall melding with the cooling breezes off the Pacific through the Monterey Bay and into the high elevations of the Santa Lucia Highlands, the fruit for Diora comes from hand-selected blocks within the family-owned San Bernabe estate in Monterey and the Santa Lucia Highlands. Chardonnay often can be harvested after red varieties in the area thanks to this microclimate, creating lush richness in the textured wine.

Diora La Splendeur du Soleil Chardonnay ($20) reveals tropical pineapple and mango on the open, followed by layers of orchard fruit, like baked apple and pear tart with notes of vanilla, creme brûlée and toasted almond. The wine is aged 14 months in partially new, predominantly French oak, giving weight and warm spice notes to the wine, making it a great winter white to pair with roasted chicken, pork, or creamy pasta dishes.
