Wine of the Day: Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

From the southern hillsides of Banfi’s Montalcino estate in Tuscany with stony soils comes some of the finest wines of the region produced from 100% Sangiovese fruit. Earthy, rich, and layered, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino ($70) is highly structured and complex, without being overly robust or ripe.

The wine releases a minimum of five years after the harvest vintage, with the ability to age in the bottle for at least another decade. Allowing the essence of the fruit and the terroir to shine, grapes undergo a meticulous selection process to only select the best, with a focus on lower alcohol (13%,) and vibrant, fresh acidity, even with extensive aging.

Aromatic and ethereal, the wine opens with forest floor and woody herb notes, followed by red fruits, freshly cracked walnut, black licorice, toasted vanilla, and sweet spice. Elegant, elevated, and highly enjoyable, a perfect pairing with braised meat, roasted chicken and mushrooms, or even aged cheese. #cheers
