Celebrating its 50th anniversary of producing dusty, dense, desirable Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Rutherford AVA of Napa Valley, Sullivan Rutherford Estate is a hallmark example of the elegance and character Napa Valley produces in its wine selections. Though each area of Napa is alluring to winemakers, there is something uniquely special about the central Napa region’s rocky, gravel, and fertile alluvial soils.
Revealing elegance and refinement in the glass, Sullivan Coeur de Vigne Cabernet Sauvignon ($120) is full-bodied, concentrated, and age-worthy. Aromas of mocha and espresso awaken the senses, leading to wild woody herbs, lavender, and pencil lead. The black fruit-filled palate shows layers of blackberry, black cherry, and blueberry, melding with toasted nutmeg, allspice, and pipe tobacco. Earthy and dense, with astringent tannins that will continue to soften with a bit of additional bottle aging. Though today it is a beautiful wine that tells a story of place, capturing the alluring fineness of the Rutherford region. #cheeres
