From high-elevation vineyards in Argentina’s Cafayate region, Piatelli
Vineyards crafts its concentrated, full-bodied Cabernet blend known as Cab 5. The blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and an interesting Italian red variety known as Ancellotta. The grape is most typically used as a blending variety in Lambrusco, lending acidity, tannin, and color to a wine.
Aromatic and rich, the expressive wine opens with wildflowers, star anise, fresh tobacco, and mocha with ripe red fruits. The palate is lush, with blackberry, cassis, espresso, and toasted spice flavors and woody herb flavors. The wine’s tannins are ripe and fleshy, with just enough acidity to keep the wine in balance. Pair it with hearty stews, grilled meats, or barbecue dishes.
