We’re Giving: A Few of Our Favorite Things for the Holiday

Just one day of holiday shopping left and you still have a list a mile long. Here are a few local favorites to please everyone on your list.

First a few items for our furry children. The easiest way to describe the Good Golly Gullet Sticks dog treats from “I and Love and You” would be to call it dog crack. Yoda was lost for an entire night enjoying this tasty treat created from hormone free, grass fed cattle. I and Love and You, ILY, produces kibble, canned and 100% dehydrated raw options for dogs and cats that are formulated to include the optimal combination of complete, whole-food nutrition. Meat is always the first ingredient, and everything is grain-free. My little furry man is getting older so finding a product that he loves that is also good for him is a complete win-win. ILY products are available at Whole Foods and Sprouts.

Wrap your little one in a cozy, and adorable, DeZavala Star shirt from Tumbleweed TexStyles. Your dog will thank you for it!

For the movie lover fans on your gift list. Right now is truly the best time of the year for a movie lover, so make their day even better with gift cards to Studio Movie Grill. Right now you can get a free movie ticket for every $25 gift card you purchase.

Of course, what better to sweeten the prize than with our favorite movie time treat, popcorn, made wonderfully healthy from Live Love Pop. Local snack queen, Lauren Brundage, created her tasty treat using high quality, real ingredients, that do good also as a portion of the proceeds benefits Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. Her latest flavor, Salt and Vinegar, is the perfect combination of salty, tangy, savory goodness. Live Love Pop is available at Green Grocer and Pogo’s, among many other spots around town.

Over the past few weeks I have done a whole series of gift ideas for wine and spirits lovers on the D Magazine/SideDish website, including the latest on spirits, linked here. One local idea I included was for the whiskey lover. Herman Marshall Texas Whiskey is giving you an opportunity to enjoy two of our finest local flavors thanks to a partnership they did with neighbor Lakewood Brewing Co, crafting a beer infused single malt whiskey using Lakewood’s “The Temptress” Imperial Milk Stout with their small batch, single malt, Texas whiskey and aged 7 months in new American oak. The result is a rich, full flavored spirit filled with dark chocolate, burnt orange, toffee and vanilla. $55, available at select Spec’s.

Or, for the vodka lover, look to another local favorite, Lee and Julia Fuqua launched Duckworth Distillery earlier this year, crafting small batch sipping vodka or a new flavor, vanilla, filled either sweet caramel, vanilla & floral notes. Clean, balanced and delicious.

birthdayFor the charity lover, bring joy to hundreds of kids throughout our city by making a donation to The Birthday Party Project in honor of your favorite kidos. With the mission is to bring joy to homeless children through the magic of  birthdays this selfless organization gives back to the kids of our city, hosting monthly birthday parties for children that would otherwise go without. Such a simple idea, and one that comes from out of the incredible love and beautiful hearts of each and every person who works with the organization and volunteers, led by the dynamic and generous Paige Chenault.

Or, think more globally and bring clean water to thousands with a donation to Charity:Water. 100% of your donation to the organization goes towards helping others. When we think about water, something many of us take for granted, as it is the most basic of necessities. Yet, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world go without clean water every day. The work of Charity:Water are changing this every day.

And for you, stop by our favorite grilled cheese truck, Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe, to get some nourishment before the day is done. You can always find the truck at Klyde Warren Park during the day. The recently crowned best grilled cheese truck in America delivers on both great food, and service, serving their gooey delights with a side of Texas hospitality.

Cheers and Merry Christmas!
