The Rutherford home of Caspar Estate sits above the valley floor on a hillside in Rutherford, an area of Napa Valley known to produce earthy, dusty, leather, and tobacco filled Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, the prestigious AVA also grows killer Sauvignon Blanc. You don’t find a plethora of vines of the variety in the area where Cab is King, however when you do, grab it with confidence, as it will be a good one.
With the 2015 release currently available Caspar Estate has entered the white wine arena, offering the variety in a very limited quantity (just 77 cases produced,) expertly crafted by Napa Valley rising star winemaker, Julien Fayard. Caspar Estate Sauvignon Blanc ($50) is filled with sunshine, layering lush green mango, Meyer lemon, orange blossom, and spiced nutmeg. Fresh, vibrant, and ideal for seafood pairings like briny oysters, grilled lobster, or fresh prawns.
