Wine of the Day: Chalk Hill Estate Sauvignon Blanc

Nestled in between cool Russian River and warm Alexander Valley, in Sonoma County, the Chalk Hill AVA benefits from both, giving the small region the unique ability to craft gorgeous, varietally correct wines from an array of varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, and our wine of the day, Sauvignon Blanc. From the estate named for its AVA, Chalk Hill Estate Sauvignon Blanc ($33) melds bright, sunshine-filled lemon-lime citrus notes with juicy honeydew, crushed stone, and lemon blossom, with just a hint of creaminess. This is thanks to seven months of barrel aging that included three months of battonage, or stirring the lees (yeasts) while the wine aged to add texture, structure, and a touch of creaminess the technique adds to aging wine.
