Wine of the Day: J Lohr 2016 Cuvee POM

From the El Polmar District of California’s Paso Robles, with cooling winds through the Templeton Gap, J Lohr showcases fresh, fruit-forward Merlot with character. With refinement and restraint, melding ripe fruit with a bright freshness, J Lohr Cuvee Pom ($60) highlights the variety with ripe raspberry and blueberry flavors, layered with an earthy mineral note, paying homage to the great Right Bank Pomerol wines of Bordeaux. Aged 18 months in French oak, and another 20 months in bottle prior to release, the wine has a nice rounded texture, enhanced by the addition of a touch of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
