Rich, deep, and luscious, the ideal wine to enjoy this evening with a big bowl of pasta, braised lamb, or a grilled ribeye, Banfi Magna Cum Laude Red Blend ($42) is a classic super Tuscan bringing Sangiovese from the family estate in Brunello, in southern Montalcino together with estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. Vinified and aged in French oak barriques separately for up to either months prior to creating the blend, and then aged an additional 6-8 months in oak, before 6 months of bottle age before release.
Full-bodied, and bold with blackberry, black plum, and black licorice with an earthy note emerging, showing layers of woody herb, wild mushrooms, olives, and savory balsamic. Tannins are bold, so allow the wine to breathe a bit before enjoying, giving you the chance to appreciate the long, persistent finish. This is a perfect wine for this time of year, warming you from the inside out. #cheers
An excellent Sangiovese/Super Tuscan.
