From Assmannshausen in the lower Rheingau region of Germany, where the Rhine valley becomes narrower and the vineyards steeper, August Kesseler produces distinct, high-quality Pinot Noir and Riesling with character showcasing the clay, slate, and quartz filled soils of the region. With just around 100 acres of estate vineyards classified VDP.ERSTE LAGEN and VDP.GROSSE LAGEN (Premier and Grand Cru vineyard sites) each with its own characteristics, which are highlighted in its range of wines. Riesling shines in cool climates, highlighting the natural acidity of the fruit, thriving on the steep slopes of the vineyards up from the Rhine.
August Kesseler Riesling R ($19) is fresh, light, and bright, with juicy stone fruit like peaches and apricot melding with crushed stone, apple blossom, and focused minerality. A delicious wine to pair with roasted vegetables, roast duck, creamy cow’s milk cheese, or simply to enjoy on its own.
