For over 40 years Sanford Winery has been the landmark of quality within the Santa Barbara region of California. The first to plant in the area, recognizing the potential for producing delicious, lively, layered, cool-climate wines with character. The planting of the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard in Santa Barbara County in the Sta. Rita Hills helped launch the AVA and remains the respected standard of excellence as the oldest in the region today.
Just released, Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir ($40) shines as a fine example of the luscious freshness the cool climate region captures, melding with an elegant earthiness and complexity. Aromas of wild strawberry and earthy truffle mingle with cherry, star anise, and violets, followed by a finessed palate filled with red and black fruits, wildflower, warm spice, and woody herb. With a lovely structure the savory, spicy wine would be a perfect addition to an evening of grilled shellfish, roasted chicken, fresh pasta, or roasted root vegetables. #Cheers
