What To Toast With Dessert? Dow’s LBV Port

I often offer suggestions for what to pair with this course or that, as savory pairings are such a common question I receive, but what to pair with dessert? Look no further than a stunning bottle of vintage Port.

Only released with exceptional vintages, which 2016 was for famed Port house, Dow’s, the 2016 Dow’s Late Bottled Vintage Port ($26) is the ideal way to wrap up a celebratory evening throughout the season and beyond. Crafted from terraced vineyards of the historic Douro Valley Symington Family etsates of Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira from a blend of varieties like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Alicante Bouschet, grown on steep, rocky slopes climbing upwards of 1000 feet above sea level.

The fortified beauty is rich and luscious, with power and a full palate, but there is also freshness with bright acidity, and a subtle, almost dry palate on the finish making this beauty delicious with red fruit-based desserts, dark chocolate cake, or nicely aged blue cheese. Flavors of blue and blackberry, dried black cherry, and licorice mingle with toasted spice and subtle oak making it ideal with dessert but don’t be afraid to also pair it with wild game, roasted pork belly, or braised short ribs. #Cheers
