With a nod to organic farming, timely as April is Earth Month dedicated to protecting our environment, Herdade do Esporao shines with its aromatic white wine showcasing the expressive elegance of native Portuguese varieties. I am a huge fan of their wines, both for their fabulous value as well as great taste.
From the Alentejo region in southern Portugal utilizing vineyards averaging in age from 15-25 years old, Esporao Reserva White ($20) blends Antão Vaz, Arinto, and Roupeiro into a fragrant wine filled with layers of white peach, soft herb, and citrus blossom, leading to layers of ripe golden grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, and peach with hints of fresh mint and sweet spice like nutmeg and allspice. Textured and lively, making it a beautiful offering to pair with spring salads, chilled shellfish, grilled white fish, and fresh pasta. #Cheers
