The area was The area has been harvesting cork bark for the production of wine corks for generations. Additionally, it is one of the best places in the country to produce bold red wines from traditional Portuguese varieties, like Touriga Nacional and Alicante Bouchet. The winery lives by the values of nature, understanding that the earth must be protected for its survival in the future. The winery follows the principles of non-conformity, responsibility, and excellence, as shown in its delectable Esporao Reserva Red Wine.
The wine was first released in 1985 and since continues to shine as one of the stars of the winery portfolio. Blending Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Trincadeira, and Cabernet Sauvignon, the inky, purplish-colored wine shows strength and power. The full-bodied, high tannin varieties, which are grown in granite and schist soils in the heat of the Portuguese summer, deliver rich black cherry, blackberry, and ripe plum flavors that intermingle with woody herb, toasted spice, and tobacco. While the wine is rich, there is also a lovely note of freshness that keeps the palate engaged and going back for more. Pair with a hearty steak or braised short ribs on a cold Sunday night.
