Kosta Browne has made a name for itself for its premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from Sonoma County. The winery partnership began in 1997 and, in 2018, became a part of the Duckhorn portfolio. In 2022, Kosta Browne debuted a new series of cool-climate, single-variety wines from Burgundy. The region is known as the foundational home of the great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The wines are vinted and aged in Burgundy and then bottled in Sonoma.
Within Burgundy Chablis shines for its mineral-driven Chardonnay wines showcasing the limestone-rich Kimmeridgian soils, crafted typically without the use of oak. Kosta Browne Premier Cru Chablis follows this model, delivering a steely, crushed-stone, white flower, green apple, and stone-fruit-filled wine with a crisp, lively style.
Pommard is a part of Burgundy producing Pinot Noir exclusively, and the home of one of the prized Pinot Noir clones of the world. International winemakers utilize the Pommard clone to create luscious red and black-fruit-driven Pinot Noir wines with earthiness, floral notes, and spice that showcase the terroir’s character exceptionally well, particularly within Willamette Valley.
Kosta Browne’s Pommard Pinot Noir is bold and rustic while maintaining refinement with years of aging ability. Aromas of cherry and blackberry meld with wildflowers, forest floor, and warm spices. These scents lead to a black fruit-filled palate with a beautiful balance of tannin and acidity, creating an ideal pairing with roasted game meats atop truffle and wild-mushroom risotto.
Kosta Browne’s Volnay Pinot Noir brings a contrasting palate to the Pommard option, with softer, more silky tannin and bright red fruit flavors. Lying south of Pommard the area is known for its mineral-rich, limestone soils, adding distinct freshness to the wine. The selection opens with red berry, cherry, and fresh floral aromas that lead to a well-rounded, beautifully balanced palate of raspberry, pomegranate, boysenberry, and red cherry with a subtle hint of spice delivering bright acidity with soft tannin. The inviting wine’s finish is long, lingering gracefully on the back palate.
