There could not have been a more perfect evening than last night for a long-table dinner under the Dallas stars celebrating the South African custom of a traditional Braai dinner.
With the temperature at dusk for our sundowner just around 65 degrees, eager Dallas Uncorked members and friends gathered at The Studio at Andrew Ormsby Catering to enjoy a lavish dinner inspired by South Africa paired with elegant South African wines from Graham Beck. Our dinner included grilled Boerewors, wild boar, roasted whole leg of beef – cooked all day on a spit over a fiery flame, stuffed peppadew peppers, roasted sweet corn and much, much more. The full menu and tasting notes available here.
The night ended with a sweet sip of chilled Amarula and stories of the African bush from Will Taylor, owner of The African Experience, Don and Ellen Winspear, safari enthusiasts and dedicated supporters of The Dallas Zoo, and me from my trip to South Africa with Amarula earlier this year, the inspiration for this dinner.
A magical night benefiting two important causes, The Dallas Zoo and CharityWater.org. With the support we received last night, as well as that from our sponsors The African Experience and Lascaux Films, we will be able to donate $1500 to each of these groups.
Cheers to a wonderful Dallas Uncorked evening celebrating food, wine and friendship, truly our favorite things.
Tickets for our next event on August 3rd at Eddie V’s benefiting The June Jones Foundation are on sale here.
