We’re Toasting: The Exes In My iPod

exes logoSometimes you read a book, or hear a song, or taste a wine that simply transports you to another place and time. I recently had this fantastic experience reading “The Exes In My iPod,” a funny recount of the men in author Lisa Mattson’s storied life. Bonus, Lisa is a friend who I simply adore, now even more so because I could relate to so, so many of her dating stories. Though her story is “fictional,” my recounts were real….and funny….and filled with crazy memories.

Those memories we have when we hear a song or smell an aroma or try a flavor, like for years anytime I smelled fresh roses mixed with potpourri I was transported to my aunts home in Houston, one of my favorite places in the world, who had a huge bowl of the mix on her entry table, enhancing the aroma in the air, mixed with roasted garlic and cigarettes. Though the combo sounds odd, the mix was rather intoxicating for a young foodie in the making, eagerly learning from her whimsical aunt that happily poured half a bottle of port into her Thanksgiving cranberry sauce, adding the perfect layer of fruit and spice.

Or screaming down the freeway in an incredible Aston Martin DB7 classic convertible listening to “Laid” by James with a not so nice guy, but man….the car was amazing.

Or any time I hear Dave Matthews I am transported to the Columbia River Gorge where he plays his annual Labor Day concert.  Gary and I went the first summer after we started dating and the memory of that fantastic concert will always remain, brought back to life with any Dave Matthews song.

October 14 Lisa Mattson will be in town (she is coming in for our Dallas Uncorked Harvest Dinner with Jordan Vineyards & Winery as she is the Director of Marketing and Communications for the winery,) and that night from 5:30-7:30 we will have a book chat/wine tasting at Veritas, talking wine, music, love and of course her incredible book. In addition to featuring several of the wines highlighted in the book, she will have copies on hand to purchase. I’ll be doing a little Q&A with her. Lisa includes “Laid” in her book as well, so I am sure we will have lots to talk about on that one.  Tickets are free, but you must sign up in advance to attend here.

We hope we will see you there!
