Wine of the Day: Bodegas Muga Rioja Blanco

From the heart of Spain’s Rioja region north of the Ebro River, in the premier location for quality Rioja wines, Rioja Alta, Bodegas Muga is one of the most celebrated wineries in Spain producing elevated wines that embrace innovation, while remaining true to their history and tradition.

Bodegas Mugas Rioja Blanco ($20) is produced from the Viura variety, with a touch of Grenache Blanc and Malvasia, the hand-harvested fruit is slowly fermented in new, lightly toasted French oak casks, then aged for three months with multiple weekly stirring of the lees (the dead yeasts) before bottling. The oak fermentation and additional aging on the lees give the wine texture and richness, adding depth to the stone fruit and citrus filled wine displaying white peaches, lemon-lime, and a hint of fresh herbs. Pair with seafood or shellfish.
