Wine of the Day: J Vineyards & Winery Blanc de Blancs

Bubbles make the world better. It is really that simple, especially when they are the gorgeous bubbles of J Vineyards & Winery. I have been a fan of the sustainably produced sparkler for years, pouring the luscious J Cuvee 20 wine at a past Dallas Uncorked event, toasting the history of Russian River winery and their dedication to crafting elevated, elegant wines with character.

Started in 1986 by Judy Jordan and sold to Gallo just a few years ago, the J Cuvee 20 ($38) was first produced to celebrated the winery’s 20th anniversary, layering creamy lemon and vanilla custard notes with baked apple, marzipan, and peach blossom.

This year the winery released the inaugural vintage of the 2014 J Vineyards & WInery Blanc de Blancs ($80) 100% Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley. Produced in the traditional method, aging five years in bottle en triage (on the yeasts) after the final blend was created in 2015, allowing a generous amount of time to fully integrate, capturing notes of baked brioche, honeycomb, and apple pie. This is a wine that slowly evolved over time, with winemaker Nicole Hitchcock only deciding to move on to the final stages of bottling after the flavors of the wine were ready to shine. It is a beautiful sparkler. Rich and textured, with a nicely well-rounded palate that delivers white peach and ripe apple notes, melding with fresh mandarin and lemon. A perfect wine to toast with, especially with the ones you love. #Cheers
