In 2011 the Duckhorn portfolio of wines, known for producing stellar selections of classic Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Rhone varietal wines from California, moved north, creating Canvasback to toast the great Northwest wines of Washington State. They established the winery in one of the prized locations for growing stellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain. The wines showcase specific sites, like their Red Mountain estate, as well as Washington’s other leading regions like Horse Heaven Hills and Wahluke Slope.
Where Canvasback is the premium from the state, they wanted to also showcase the quality of Washington-grown fruit, at a more approachable price, creating their Greenwing wines under the Canvasback umbrella. Greenwing Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($30) showcases the quality found in the mineral intense soils of Eastern Washington ten-fold! From fruit grown throughout Columbia Valley the expressive wine opens with woody herb and wild berry notes of dried thyme, sagebrush, ripe strawberry, and cherry, followed by layers of black plum, ripe cherry, and strawberry, with toasted spice and cedar. Luscious and bright, with an energy that makes this incredibly easy to enjoy upon early release. Enjoy on its own, with smoky grilled salmon or steaks, burgers or brisket. #Cheers
