Happy Cinco de Mayo, Let’s Toast

Today is the favorite holiday of my friend Liz. She loves a good margarita and any opportunity to sip some decent tequila. The Mexican holiday commemorating the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire in 1862 has likely become more of an American holiday vs. a Mexican holiday. The people of Mexico have the opportunity to drink their native spirit produced from Mexican-grown blue agave plants in the town of Jalisco anytime.

Americans, on the other hand, like to have a reason to celebrate and Liz isn’t the only one who loves a good margarita crafted from premium tequila. CNBC recently noted that tequila could overtake vodka as the most popular spirit consumed, with agave-based spirits (tequila and mezcal) seeing a 30%+ growth in 2021 over the previous year. So, as we savor this Cinco de Mayo holiday, raise a glass and enjoy one of these incredible margarita cocktails. #Cheers

What pairs better with margaritas than guacamole? Especially when you can enjoy a little guac with your cocktails for free. Teremana Tequila and its owner, Dwayne Johnson want to help you do just that tomorrow (or anytime through May 8th.) Order a Teremana Tequila cocktail and an order of guacamole from your favorite taco stand or Mexican restaurant and “The Rock” will buy your guac for you! Just hold on to your receipt and follow the link for details.

Skinny Spicy Margarita
2-ounces Teremana Reposado Tequila
1-ounce triple sec
1/2 ounce agave
1/2 lime
2 slices of fresh jalapeno
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker and shake until chilled. Strain over ice into a rocks glass, with or without salt to your taste.

Grapefruit Margarita
2 parts Roca Patron Silver Tequila
1 part fresh ruby red grapefruit juice
1 part lime juice
1/2 part agave
5 fresh basil leaves
Lime and fresh basil leaves to garnish
Add ice, tequila, grapefruit, lime, mint, and agave to a shaker and shake until cold. Shaking the liquids with the basil will bruise the herb a bit releasing the flavors and oils. Strain into a salt-rimmed, ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with additional basil and lime.

Pineapple Margarita
2 parts Don Julio Reposado Tequila
4 Fresh Pineapple Chunks
1 part Lime Juice
4 mint leaves (1 for Garnish)
Preparation: Add tequila pineapple chunks, mint, and lime juice, to a shaker. With a wooden spoon or muddler smash everything together breaking down the pineapple and releasing the juices (you can also use pineapple juice, but the fresh fruit gives such a refreshing note to the cocktail. Add ice, cap with the other side of the tin, and shake vigorously for 8-10 seconds, double strain over ice cubes into a collins glass. Garnish with fresh mint and pineapple.

Love you Lizzy, wish I was sipping with you now. #Cheers
