Mullan Road Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

There is a historic 600-mile road that stretches between Fort Benton, Montana and Fort Walla Walla in Washington. This road is called Mullen Road, and is the inspiration for Dennis Cakebread’s Mullan Road Cellars. A nod to the past, including a bit of his own growing up inside one of Napa Valley’s premier winemaking families, as well as the future as Dennis ventured out of California to a new frontier in the newly established Royal Slope AVA within the Columbia Valley AVA, north of Walla Walla.

Mullan Road Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon ($45) captures the elegance and rusticity of this high elevation region, delivering a wine displaying power and personality. Produced predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with 11% Cabernet Franc, adding fresh floral and herbal notes, along with 7% Merlot, layering in fresh fig and plum notes, giving softness to the structure of the Cabernet. The wine opens with red and purple fruit, subtle herb, violets, and espresso aromas, followed by a palate layering these flavors in with dried spices, toasted vanilla, and mocha. A perfect wine to enjoy with roasted meats or sausages, barbecue chicken or ribs, or semi-hard cheese like aged white cheddar. #cheers
