Earlier this week on The Broadcast Dawn and I talked about a few whites that are perfect for summer, and not too traditional…like our well loved glasses of Chardonnay. Here are a few favorites that we discussed
Domaine Sigalas Santorini Assyrtico – $22 at Total Wine and More, steely, mineral rich white with high yet balanced acid filled with layers of juicy lemon, lime, and fresh white flowers. Incredibly summer wine with any fish dish, fresh cheese or summer salads.
Inama Vin Soave Classico Superiore – $15 at Jimmy’s and Total Wine & More – I love a Soave as an alternative to Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, as it is kind of a mix of both. From the Veneto region of Italy, very aromatic, balanced and easy drinking.
Esporao Verdelho – $15 at Whole Foods – From the Alentejo region of Portugal, in the hot southern part of the country. One of the top varieties of Portugal, typically used in the fortified wine, Maderia, but on its own as a still wine is filled with grassy notes, with aromatic fresh tropical fruit and lively citrus. A perfect patio wine.
Treana White – $17 at Goody-Goody and Total Wine – A stunning white from Hope Family in a traditional white rhone style. Viognier and Marsanne, filled with white flowers, dried stone fruit and melon, that is delcious enjoyed young, but will continue to round out the layers of flavor as it ages to create layers of honey and sweet cream.
Merryvale Sauvignon Blanc – $28 via their website – One of the finest from Napa Valley, sold through their website, this is a clean and fresh Sauv Blanc…made in a somwhat French style with a touch of Semillon added in to create w fresh and lively wine that is not overly filled with citrus, nicely balanced with minerality, grassy floral notes and balanced citrus with elegance and freshness.
