Last Sunday night, with heavy hearts, we put on a happy face to celebrate my baby, Dallas Uncorked, and 12 years of introducing our Dallas members to wines in a comfortable, inviting and educational way, while giving back to incredible charities.
Gary and I are rather emotional people….we cry throughout, pretty much, the entire broadcast of CBS Sunday Morning weekly, both for the happy stories showcasing great talent, and the sad. There has been so much sadness in our world lately though it was hard to put on that happy face Sunday night. However, as each and every person joined us that night to help in our celebration our moods quickly changed. From dear friends, to new friends, so my fabulous cousin Chablis and hubby John, who had just arrived from Arkansas for the event, to our incredible wine friends from the ultra-premium Ram’s Gate Winery, and of course Chef Sevy and Stefaan, the evening delivered everything I could have ever asked for, and more.
Two long red rose filled tables floated down the middle of the dining room at Sevy’s, dotted with candles and, of course, lots of wine glasses, ensuring the evening would have a communal feel of friendship.
At the end, Ram’s Gate bottles lined up for our side by side pairings of four of their single vineyard beauties, a Chardonnay from the famed Hyde and Sangiacomo Green Acres Vineyards, and Pinot Noir from Bush Crispo and Gap’s Crown. The idea was to show, side by side with current release wines, how different the terroir of Sonoma is, even in vineyards that are in very close proximity to each other. Adding in pairings, like Chab’s favorite of the night, shrimp toasts on crispy polenta, creamy corn chowder and grilled tenderloin added in the melding of food and wine, highlighting why wine is truly meant to be enjoyed with food.
Though the sold out crowd kept the room lively, everyone was silenced when Colin Chenault of The Birthday Party Project, whose unstoppable wife Paige is Founder and CEO, stepped up to talk about their impactful non-profit. Started just 4 years ago and already in 7 states The Birthday Party Project does the simple, beautiful job of bringing joy to kids through the celebration of their birthday. We are honored to be able to support them, giving birthdays through our birthday. Eat, Sleep, Party, Repeat…not a bad way to live.
