I had the joyful opportunity a few months ago to partner with Napa Valley’s Amici Cellars to toast the 15th anniversary of Dallas Uncorked. It seemed ideal to raise a glass to our organization that has brought me so many lasting friendships and so much joy, with a wine that is all about friendship. The translation of amici in Italian is “welcome friends,” “love and friends,” in other words, friendship. The wines we poured throughout the evening we magnificent, showcasing premium quality Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, like the 2015 Amici Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon from Andy Beckstoffer’s meticulously farmed, highly celebrated vineyard in Oakville. But, their spectacular Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from the prestigious Heintz Vineyard could have stolen the show.

Pouring the 2016 Amici Charles Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay, the wine shone with layers of golden apple, lemon balm, crème brulee, and white peaches. Barrel fermented and aged in 40% new French oak, balanced with a freshness the coastal region brings to their fruit, this lush, well-textured Chardonnay. When masterfully paired with Chef Abraham Salum’s crispy pork belly, spicy arugula, grilled Texas pulot salad, dressed with a mix of sweet and heat in vanilla- chipotle vinaigrette, the lush, richness of the wine came through, hitting on all cylinders.
