I had the great opportunity a few weeks ago to visit my dear friend, Deb Knapp, main anchor for KATU-TV, the ABC affiliate in Portland and talk about how Willamette Valley has finally, now, started making great strides with the Chardonnay wines they are producing. Though it is the most popular white variety in the country, for years vintners and winemakers in Willamette had a tough time growing the grape and producing quality wines. Happily, that is changing and wineries like Adelsheim, Stoller, Bergstrom, Domain Serene, Soter and Domain Drouhin are making stellar wines from Burgundian Chardonnay clones.
