Though Argentina is known for its earthy, dusty, Morello cherry and black plum-filled Malbec wines, all Bordeaux varieties thrive in the high elevation vineyards nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.
Here, growing under the watchful eye of these majestic mountains and just feet from the Mendoza River, Finca La Mascota showcases the influence of both, with cooling breezes coming off the mountain blowing through the river, giving energy with elegance to the fruit growing with a range of temperatures and soil types, ripening the grapes, giving structure and density, delivering delicious Bordeaux varieties. The oldest variety growing here is Cabernet Sauvignon, first planted forty-one years ago.
Finca La Mascota “Unánime” Gran Vino Tinto ($25) from the Latin “Unanimis” referring to being in complete harmony or accord, brings together predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Franc from stony Uco Valley soils creating a complex, structured, rich wine with character. The wine opens with inviting aromas of blackberry and blueberry, toasted cedar, pipe tobacco, vanilla, and woody herb, followed by flavors of black fruits (plum, fig, berry) with dark chocolate, nutmeg, and crushed stone. The perfect wine for grilled or roasted beef or lamb, or even nicely aged parmesan or gouda. #Cheers
